LONGRIDGE.

February B.— The weather of late has been 1 warm and dry, enabling farmers to safely garner and, in most cases, thresh their grass seed. We had a fine gentle rain on the 28th ult. whiclu helped to keep turnips and grass growing, but the very warm weather of last week seemed to bo bringing crops on to maturity much too fast. A heavy easterly rain set in, however, on Saturday night and continued all day yesterday, and it will do an immense amount of good. Lo.vGiuDjiK North School. — A most successful entertainment came off in the Longridge North School on the evening of the 22nd ult., [in which the following ladies and gentlemen took part : — Misses Leftler, Crosby, Thomas, Atkinson, Gellatly, Mary Uellatly, and Menzies ; Messrs Macedo, Burtenshaw, Patten, and others. Mr S. Walker acted as chairman. The whole affair passed off most agreeably, and the dance which followed, and which continued until an early hour next day, appeared to most of those present to be the pleasantcst part of the programme. Mr Maley, of Lumsacn, discharged the duties of M.C. in a highly efficient manner. The were in aid of the prize fund. On Friday, the sth inst., the children were presented with their prizes by Mr Tresider, in the absence of the chairman of the school committee (Mr Kay), who was unavoidably prevented from being present. The children were then served with tea and cake. After an excellent address from Mr A. C. Kay, in which he pointed out to them the manifold advantages conferred on the children of the present day as contrasted with that ,'of his early youth, impressing them with the truth, "To whom much is given, much is required," the meeting broke up, all having spent a most enjoyable day.
