Throw wide the Eastern Gates— those wondrous
Of cunning workmanship : the chilled world waits The coming of the fiery, heat-crowned sun. "All hail, most mighty monarch, shining one ! Thus shout the bearers of the king s pure light, "Make way! make way! farewell, O craven night, Go seek a shelter where no light is seen, Where suns are not, nor evtr sun has been ! 'Tis day : the sluggish morning mist uncoils Its serpent form— its prey escapes the toils, Tho mountain tops are free to greet their lord— The Lord of Day, who now unsheaths his sword And whirls it fiercely, like a living fire, Around his head ; then bids all dews retire. And thus he marches on with measured stride, Him.self, the heart of Nature— God, his guide. —Charles Rule.
