October 26.— W0 are having very rough and blustery weather this month, ano vtgetatii-u Ib backward iv consequence. , Farmers are making preparations for ihearing There was a fair peroentsge of iambs, although there were a number of deaths, not only amongst the lambi but also among the mothers Firb - Tbe homestead and stables on Mr English's Castle Kock farm were destroyed by fire on Fridaj night;, the 23rd inst. There was no one staying on the farm, and the origin of the fire Is a mystery. I believe the property destroyed was insured in the New Zealand Office, but for what amount I have not heard-OHANGBS.-Mr Marshall, of the Diptoa Hotel, has sold our. to one Mr Carnle. The new Railway Hotel is now fluhhed. It is a creditable structure, and is nicely furnished. The new landlord, Mr G. Aylin, seems a man who knows his business, and I have no doubt will give entire satisfaction to. his patjroni. Angling. '-Fishing hat up to date been more or less a failure owing to the indifferent state of the river, combined with the blustery weather. The knowing ones, however, who areacquainted with the different little nooks and backwaters, have met with fair success, und if I mistake not tbera will be lome big tak^s this leauoti, as the fish are here in shoals.
