Pto B 5 should have been played. g B to Q 2 should win. Canterbury Chess Club. The annual general meeting of the above club was held in the olubroom, Chamber of Commerce, las week. There was a good at* tendance o." members. Mr H. Hookham, the president, occupied the ohair. The seoretary read the twelfth annual report of the committee. 'It congratulated the members on the satisfactory condition of the olub, stated that about a dozen new members bad been elected during the year, and hoped that the number would be inoreased next year. Eeference was made to the big tourney of 1890, the annual New Zealand Championship Congress j held in Wellington last Christmas, the telegraphic match with Otago, and the first smoke concert of the olub iv February, and the olub was congratulated on having taken possession of the premises it now occupied, whioh had been rented .for a further term of 12 months. The report also spoke of two even tournaments of 1891, whioh bad been the means of keeping up the attendance of members and of providing fine practice. The balance showed the receipts to have been £59 Is lid, and the expenditure £44 8s 9d, leaving a oredit balance of £14 13s 2d. On the motion of Mr Hiorns the report and balance sheet were adopted. After an address by the retiring president, and a few suggestions from several members for the consideration of the committee, the election of officers was taken, and resulted as follows :— President, Mr Hookham ; vioepresidents, Messrs W. AotonAdams and A.M. Ollivler; hon. treasurer, Mr :J. J. Milner ; hon. secretary. Mr A. Oant-(all reelected); committee — Messrs J. G. L. Scott, J. Gonual, A. H. Todd. J. Spiller, and W. J. Wood. On the motion of Mr Hookham it was resolved— "That it be an instruction to the incoming committee that the suggestions of Messrs Spillerand Wiggins, whereby sides' matches should be played, to be preoeded by illustrations °l h f open'ngs to be adopted, should be given effect to." On the motion of Mr 'J. G. L. Scott, [a hearty vote of thanks was aooorded to Messrs Hookham and Ollivier for representing the club at the New Zealand Annual Championship Tourney [at Wellington. After Jvotes of thanks had been passed to the [retiring officers and to the chairman, the meeting terminated.
