DUNEDIN AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUB.

The following is the annual xeport to be presented to the members of the Dunedin Amateur Athletio Club at the annual meeting to be held on Monday next :—

In submitting the sixth annual report cf the proceedings of the olub, for the year ending 31at August 1891, your committee have pleasure in stating that the year just ended has been » prosperous one. The finances of the club are in a satisfactory state. The credit balance with which we begin the new year is; £25 14s 6d, as against £10 IBs 9d brought forward from previous year ; and our expenditure includes the sum of £3 11s, which was an old outstanding liability nob incurred by present committee. At the present moment the club has no liabilities. There ia also to be taken into account the winning of the Champion OballengeOup, which has now become the absolute property of MnP. J. Nets, thereby passing out of the possession of the olub. The oross-country run held at St. Olair on 15th November 1890, was very successful there being 120 entries, although the number of those who oompeted fell far short of this. It was decided that there should • i P" zes - Tlie flwt was a valuable travelling dock, the gift of Mr James Hislop. Moreover, the winner is entitled to hold for the year the Silver Challenge Cup, whioh was presented to the club for annual competition by Dr W. S. W. Boberts. The attendance of the public was fairly good, and would have been better had the weather'been more favour.able. The club are under obligations to the following landowners— viz .—Mrs M'Laren, and Meisra Taylor, Allan, and Kane, for permission to use the ground over which the course lay, and to Mrs Jones, of woodeaton, for generously providing refreshments.

The club's annual sporfci held at Oarisbrook grounds on 6th Deoember 1890 also passed off «nocessfully, although the financial result was a small loss to the club. A noticeable feature on this occasion was the presence of competitors from Christctiurcn, Tlmaru, Oamaru, and Invercarglll The thank* of the club are especially due to the ladies for their prize, and also for taking charge of the afternoon tea.

The New Zealand Amateur Championship meeting was held at Auckland on 6th and 7th February 1891. Your committee regret to report that only oneof the men they had seleoted to represent your club at this meeting was able to get away. Mr A Bain, jun.. from whom hopes were expected of carrying off honours in the walking competitions, lost his chances by an acoident he met with while training at Auckland, and the meeting therefore was fbarren in results so far as this club is concerned.

Your committee take this opportunity to remind members that next year's Championship meeting will be held at Ohristohurch in February 1892, and it "to be desired and hoped that it will be fraught with better results to this olub. The meeting place being so muoh closer to ourselves, the former difbo ce t! r 1° /1 ipeofc t0 men 8 6tfcin 8 awa y will not be A project was submitted to your committee by the Mew Zealand Amateur Athletio Association for the consideration of affiliated clubs, it being proposed to contribute to the expense of sending Home a team of athletes with the objeofc of competing for English championships. Your committee, after oarefulconsideratlon, could not see their way to promise their active support to the sobeme for reasons fully set forth in the resolution then passed. The promoters are still hopeful of carrying the matter through , and it iB not unlikely that the subject will aglin be brought under the notice of the incoming commitG66a The olub has been unfortunate during the year In losing the servioes of some of .Its warmest friends, including Messrs B. B. Morrison, Twopeny, Howlieon, and Major Goring, all of whom have left the colony or district. Your committee desire to record the great services rendered to this club and to athlehes in general by these gentlemen, distinguishing especially Mr Morrison, who had the welfare of all games and sports very muoh at heart. As evidence that absent friends do not forget us your committee nofce with pleasure that our donations for the year include the handsome sum of £5 SSffJS^SS£ST preßldent ' Dr wmiam Hm h u^ I l un 1 di V. Amateur Ground Company, Limited having this year given the club the opportunity of nominating two members of the managing board of that company, your committee named Dr Jeffooat and Mr B. O. The above company have decided to offer the use th%£JSfi& H** fcralning P urDOae B. on Payment of the amall fee of 5i per annum to each member usina it, and thw offer is recorded with a recommendation that advantage be taken of it, The meeting of the olub held in November 1890 for the presentation of prizes won at the cross-ooun-try meeting, was taken advantage of (the necessary formalities as to giving notice having been observed) for the purpose of the revision of the club rules, and the present printed" edition contains all revisions then made,

The resignation of one of our former delegates in Ohristchurch to the Hew Zealand Amateur Athletic Assoolation-vlz . Mr B. Heatou Ehodes, was rendered necessary by his departure for Europe ; and your committee record with satisfaction tttat we are at present worthily served In that respect by Dr Moorhouse and Mr J. S. Hawkes. The present president of this olub, Mr Q-. L. Denniston, is, as •uoh, one of the vice-presidents of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. .. Y jp2 r oommlfc fcee beg to draw afcfceniiou to the fact triat five applications were made through them to the New Zealand Amateur Athletio Association for reinstatement a« amateurs.
