Mr David Munro won tbe junior competition - at tbe Dunedin Gymnastic Club on Thursday, ' the 3rd inst. Mr Munro is also a member of ' tbe Dunedin Amateur Athletic Club, and made his first appearance at the club's annual sports laßt year, beinp a competitor in the walking race.

The American amateur hammer-thrower, Queokberner, established a new 161b record at Old Trafford in July, hurling the hammer 134 ft 2£in. At Salford, G, B. Shaw.th* New Zealander, won the 300 yds Hurdle Handioap from Bcratch in 39 2 5380

Nioholl gave a Mile Exhibition Walk, oovering the distance in 6min 50390, and Hallook won the High Jump, with sft lljin. * E. D. Lange, one of the Americans, was on this same day engaged ,in winning, at the Highgate HarrierB 1 Bports .at Paddington, the Eight-mile Walking Handioap. He had a start ' of 3min 30seo from H. Curtis, and won gby 250yda from J. Wells (2mia 453e0 start). Lange's time was lhr 3min 20 2 ssec, but Curtis, who finished third, beat the record by doingjthe journey in lhr lmin 6 l-sseo. Although not in good health, he set off with the object of covering the eight miles in an hour— and only just failed. The actual distance covered by him in the hour was 7 miles 1487 yds 2ft.
