The following is the Corn Exchange report (per H. P. Meyers, secretary) for the week ending Friday, August 21:— Cables from Home during the past week with regard to the KnglUh and European markets have been rather sensational. Rises have been very deoided, and from all appearances they are likely to go still higher. Locally it has had but little effect on the markets beyond making holders less inclined to sell. There has been a demand for second quality barley, but prices seem to remain about the same as last week. Oats are steady, with but few offering. Grass seeds have steady demand for machinedressed samples. Cocksfoot, however, is a little weaker, and cannot now be quoted over s|d for tne best 161b seed. Potatoes are selliDg in small lots at 10s at country stations. Dairy produce is in fair demand At our quotations, which are as follows : — Wheat : Prime Tuican, 4» 3d to 4s 4d ; pearl, 4s 2d to 4s 3d; Hunter's, 4s Id to 4s 2d ; teoonda, 3s to 3s 3d. THE SYDNEY MARKETS.
The Rational Mortgage *nd Agenoy Company report on the Sydney markets as follows :— Wheat.— No sales can be reported. Millers are still obtaining their supplies from tha southern colonies. There have been transactions as low as 4s 6d for inferior South Australian, but for prime samples 5s is asked. Supplies ia VictorU are reported as restricted andconeentra f pd, stocks figuring out as being barely sufficient to supply their ordinary trade for the current year. Europe, with a larger deficit than has been the case for many years, will, it is thought, fully absorb the American surplus. Most authorities are of opinion that ttocka in all the colonies will run very low by the end of November, and that present prices will be fully maintained and perhaps exceeded. Oats. — Receipt i have been moderate. The market is fairly active for choice stout feed, full prices being readily paid. The demand for ordinsrj grades is not such as to place holders entirely ia the advantage so far as values are concerned, Quotations: Prime white short feed, to 2s 2d ; choice milling, to 2s 3d ; inferior and medium, Is 9d to Is lid; Tartarlans, Is 10d to 2s Id. Potatoes.— Receipts for the fortnight have been light, and as holdings here are concentrated an
advance of 10s per ton has been established for New Zealands, with a further advance probable during the current week. Circular Heads have, if anything, reoeded a shade. Quotations: New Zealand, °Dairy Products.- Butter has advanced 3d on our last quote. A decline, however, may be expected ac any moment, as receipts are «radually and stocks accumulating. Other lines without change.
