Notes from Upper Taieri.
(Feom Oub Own Correspondent.)
Mat 25. — Some time since it was announced in the columns of the Witness, that Mr Wei man was about to erect a dredging machine at Hambly's Grosslog, Upper Taierl river. A large portion of the dredging plant bat for tome months past been lying An the rjye; bank, but no stove Jans to cUtte fceen
made towards having the dredge ereoted. It certainly seems very strange that the promoters of this enterprise should allow suoh a lengthened period of time to elapse without making an effort to erect the dredge. The Canadian diggings, renowned of old tot- its rich patches of gold, is once more looking up. A large band of Celestials have established their quarters In that locality for the purpoie of prosecuting their labours in the sluicing branch of mining. During the past summer months a number of them set to work to repair and clean out a water race constructed some years ago by a party of Europeans, but afterwards abandoned. There is a good supply of water thundering down to their workings from
KiadeH'B creek, but I am afraid that " King Froit " will very soon put a stop to sluicing operation* In that elevated locality.
