TAPANUI.

Mabch 23.— We had very severe weather here all but week. On Saturday rooming the Blue Mountain range was covered with snow. It is needless to say that all harvest operations have been suspended. She farmers will in all probability suffer from the bad weather, as it will materially alter the appearance of the grain. Suddbn Dbath. — On Saturday last a man named John M'Olymont, engaged as a carpenter at Brooksdale station, died very suddenly. He went to his work aa usual, feeling quite well, but at about 10 o'clock he dropped down, and before they got him to the but life was qul'e extinct, the dootor's opinion being that dtath took place from fatty degeneration of the heart and syncope. An inquest was considered unnecessary. Tbe deceased was 53 years of sge. Daiby Factory.— lt is highly gratifying to state that during the past week nine tons and a-half of cheese left the factory for shipment for the Home Country, the whole season's make bMng sold to a Liverpool firm at a satitfaetory price. The cheesemaking has been under the management of Mr H. X>, Dawaon, who has given every satiifaotion. I believe that the fscbory will remain open for three weeks longer. Babbiting. — The destruction of bunny in the meantime is wholetale. One day last week no leBS than one ton of carcasses left the Tapanui railway etation for the several meat preserving works. One would imagine that if moh warfare is kept going,

bunny will have to beat a retreat. Still there appears to be an unlimited supply of rodents about here yet. I Dxbb Stalking,— This it still the favourite pastime. Several new licenses have been issued, and I believe a few more grand stags have been captured. The weather is not very suitable for the sport just now.
