Wool. — Three or four small sales were held on Monday last— in all about 250 bales were offered. Competition was brisk, and prices obtained quite equal to those current during tbe height of the season. Most of the wool offered were more or less faulty, whioh has to be borne in mind when comparing values.— Wbight, Stephenson, and Co. sold 83 bales, mostly crossbreds of coarse quality and a good deal of it matted. Values ranged from 7d to Bfd per lb. Sheepskins continue to meet with ready sale, in fact the demand far exceeds the supply. Habbitskim.— Tbe quantity offering is not great, but any lota coming forward meet with ready sale, Springs and summers are worth from 8d to lid per lb, suckers and runners 3d and 5d per lb respectively. Hides — A very good demand exists for prime heavy bides, but they arein short supply, the greater proportion, that come from the country at least, being either light and damaged in the flaying or •poiled by being badly got up and dirty. We quote : —For prime heavies to 3d per lb (for extra heavy and thick asd to Id more) ; medium weight, 2d to 2jd per lb ; light and inferior, Ijd to 1 Jd. Tallow.- Owing to the soap and candle makers haviDg very large stocks on hand and to their not working full time the demand is hardly so brisk. No difficulty, however, la experienced in clearing odd lots at slightly reduc.d prices. We quote: — Prime rendured mutton tallow, £20 to £21 ; prime rendered mixed, £18 to £19; medium, £16 to £17; inferior, £10 to £14 : clean mutton caula, 12s to 13s 6d ; inferior to medium, 9j Ud to 11s. Grain — Wheat t Although cable advlcei have been received from London that a tiee had taken place there the news has not had the effect of advancing prices to any appreciable extrnt lure. Tbia can be explained by the fact that tbe quotations -or thia market were more thaa t quivAlent to those ruling in London, and even iowfhipp"-s c~uld not buy with anr hope of miking a profit. Tho advance, however, has had t"e effect of making prices firmer, and sales of new wheat, which were hard to effect at last week's quotations hefo c news of the excitement in the wheat market in London reacheJ us, are now more ea^ly effected. V>ry litt'e, however, has been done in locally grown wheat as yet, and millers are not at all anxious to stock ut present rates. We quote for southern wheat— Primi milling, 3a 9d to 3s lid ; ordinary, 3i 7d to 3a 9d ; inforlor, 38 4d to 3a 6d. Oats : A few s^mplea of new oats have reached us during the p^ist weuk, and as vessels have been on the berth for Sydney, from whence rath-r more encouraging reports are being received, nit suitable parcels were readily sold shippers, however, are not inclined to advance on last wetk'« quotations, and although small parcels {have been sold at <i alight advance the sales were mnde only to fill urgent requirements, and it would be misleading to quote the figures obtained for theae sale a an market rates. We quote: Prime milling, la s§'l ; heavy b-ight feed, la sd; ordinary, la Id to la 4£d ; Danish and lonsr, Is4d to Is 4Jd. Barley: Thete ia practically no business doing. Byegrass. — The demand is now principally confined to clean samples fit for sowing without; being cleaned, but as the great bu\k of l,hn ee»so ,'a reed has been already pla-ed on tho market, the busine-'s done ia limited. Dirty a jrn plea ore aieo saleable at eq'itvalen f . prices to machine clreeseds cd:—Mtchinedreased, 5s to 5s 3d ; heavy clean f.-irmera' drossed seed, 4a 9d to ss; medium do do, 4« 3d to 4s 6d.
