Notes From Reefton. ( FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
Bbefton. March 14. Stock Exchange report : — The quantity of amalgam reported from the different batteries to-day is 15310z, representing the Progress, United Alpine, Keep-It-Eark. Inkerman. ?To. 2 South Dark, and Gallanfc Companies, together with a small crushing from the Al lease, situated in the Merrijlgs locality. The Globe, it will be noticed , is still absent from tbe list, and it is not likely active crushing will be resumed before the latter.end of the coming week, by wbiab time the snveral matters requiring repair and alteration will be out of hand. In each instance tbe yields are most satisfactory and payable. The crushing from the Al lease, which is held by a private party, was one of 6| tons taken from a small leader, which, of course, occupied some time iv getting. Tbe yield therefrom is given at 1240z of retorted gold, and may be taken as serving toindicate what high class stone exists in the locality. Generally speaking mining bas been somewhat uneventful this week, and if a material improvement in the Globe new level be exempted, there has not been muoh else to stir matters beyond their usual groove. There is a healthy all-round activity going on, however, and undertakings at the prospecting stage continue to attract a fair amount of local attention with a moderate share of transactions in buying and selling at the usually low rates ruling for the same. Blue Sky, which comprises ground adjoining that of the | Exchange and Cumberland, have sold at up to 9d. A prospecting tui.nel is being driven. Kxohange are also saleable at low rates, and tbe company's prospects are said to be equally encouraging. Cumberland have kept at from 7s 6d to 8s all the week. Bow that the battery is available again, crushing will start directly. Ac the mine is looking well and atone coming freely to grass, a keener tendency for business may soon be expected. The Durham, another adj lining lease, but not registered yet, is commanding some attention . Fiery Cross have been less oper *ted in, and have been offered at a slight reduction. I'he small crushing from the Gallant mine is regarded as sufficient to warrant the extension of active c-pf rations Ia that pirt of the mine from which the atone was take <. The work of rising and driving in the Hercules mine has been let, and shares are being inquired for. Inangahua Low Level and United Devonshire show no further advance so far, but the work being resumed will keep the locality under notice Merrijlgs shares are quoted at 6d to 7d. and Golden Leid have also bad inquiry. No. 2 Dark hold a forwnrd and firm position, and are quoted at 5s 91 to 6s. Crushing with 10 heads Is in full swing again, and the quartz maintaining the same payable average. The Sir Charles Russell Company's prospects attract some notice, an I shares have been selling at Is Id to la 2d. The reef, which carries excellent gold, la to be risen and sunk upon ; after which it is estimated the property will be well enough proved to wa.-rant t.hn consideration of omening appliances . The ba' tc r y would also command other leases. Wealth of Habioiis have sellers at 4s, and no new feature from the mine is reported. Good progress iatheinsideworkingisbpiDgmamtained. Globe bad fair inquiry at a slight advance, and the block in tbe new level ia increasing in width It is usually noticeable, however, that ? ven n temporary stoppage to crushing scarcely eve-r fails to affect business in tbe shares concerned. Th" Projjrers battery is again in active work, and a good return to hand for the week.
