THE LAND OF DROWSIHEAD.

I've wandered east, I've wandered west ; To many a spot my feefc have apod, But th«re is one I love the best. Of all wherein I've made mv bed ; Whale'er's been writ, -whste'er's been said. By men, O there's no place for rest Like the dear Land of Drowsihead ! But just this side the gates of sleep, A perfume rare, meseems, is shed From poppy blooms whose breath T reap, And poppy leaven, meaeenn, are spread O'er all the path that 1 must tread, As on my way to dreams I keep Thro' that sweet Land of Drowsihead. I have no hopes, I have no feari, I take no thought for daily breid ; Earth's hum my soul but vaguely hears, I'm not alive, nor am I dea*!, And yet of Time I lose the thread. Myself as some grey ghost appears In that dim Land of Drowsihead. A half-way house betwfxt the strife Of day nn-1 ntght t Who does not dread To flt>d the world of dreams as rife With foss as that from which he's fled ? Ami on his- way to sleep he's led. Who'd noli lay down the load of life In this fair L»nd of Drowsihead ? 'Us not Nirvana. Yet, for grace, ' Tia next to that. The heart that bled Bu*i now fin<l3 hf-re in thia sMH place, The % e*ce for whioh it loiig has plead. My weary spirit, O 'tis ttd From Lathe ! For a little space I rest in this dear Drowslhead. — M.
