THE GIVER OF ALL.

As I lean from this upper chamber To breathe the cool night air, The whole dark sky is gleaming With tremulous starlight fair. The white mist creeps on the hillside, And tops the mountains high ; The night birds Boream in their flying, And I feel that Thou art nigh. All birds and beasts are known of Thee, Thou great and glorious One, Oh I let me never now forget What Thy love for me has done. Oh ! Father dear, who gave us hearts, To know and love thy trees, To sigh with joy when we inhale The forest-scented breeze, Under the cliff where damp moss clings. The river runs to the sea, Winds on with green and edging swirl, And my heart is stirred in me ; For the thought of its depth and wldenesß Leads the next thought on to Thee. To Thee, to Thee I would hasten As the river does to the sea. Southland, March 13. — S.S.M.
