STRATH-TAIERI.
November 9.— We are having thiiigs vi-ry lively here at present— indeed there is quite a revival of a various number of things In thli district. The weather, which has been very dry, with moderate winds, for nearly two years, hss again come down upon us in vengeful wrath. Rain has fallen almost daily for the last three weeks, and has beßn licked up as it has fallen by terrific wind* from the southwest Politics, like the weather, have also suddenly jumped into prominence Mr Scobie Mackenzie addressed the electors on Saturday night in the schonlhouse. There was a lanre gathering, being the largest Dolilical meeting ever held in the district. Mr Micke izie gave a very good account of hi nself, and s|ioke for nearly two hours on a gre it variety of political topics. The candidate has represented the district in two Parliaments and comes forward for a third election Mr Mackenzie is a sound and fearless politician, hij able debater, und stiehs to his Freetrade principles tenaciously. After a large number of questions had been put to tho candidate, and amwerod satisfactorily, a vote of thanks and confidence, as beiDg the most fit and proper person to represent the district, was proposed and carried by a large majority.
