The first innings of England closed for 173. M'Gregor, b Lyons, 0 ; Lohmann, c and b Lyons, 19 ; Attewell, c Peel, b Turnbull, 16 ; Ulyett, b Lyons, 74 ; Barnes, b Lyons, 9 ; extras, 2.

Again there were 18,000 people at Lord's to witness the cricket match. The weather was fine and the wicket improved. Ulyett was batting two and a-half hours, and never gave a chance. The fielding of the visitors was excellent. In England's first innings Turner took one wioket for 63 rnns ; Ferris

two for 55 ; Trott two for 16 ; Trumble one for 17 ; and Lyons five for 31. In their second innings the Australians have i lost nine wickets for 168 runs. Ibw, b Peel... 2 Ferris, Ibw, b LohMurdoch.b Lohmann 19 munn ... ... 9 Gregory, c Lohmann, Trumble, c Barnes, b b Barnes ... 9 Lohmann ... 5 Oharlton, Ibw, b Barrett, not out ... 63 Grace ... ... 2 Burn, not out ... 15 Blaokham, o Barnes Extra* ... 2 bGraoe... ... 10 — Total for nine wickets ... ... 168 Barrett was at the wickets four hours, and made his runs by perfect cricket. Burn played a plucky innings. Lyons knooked up his score in 23 minutes. The fielding of the English team was very fine. July 23. Lyons bowled brilliantly in the first innings of England, and Blackham, behind the wickets, was greatly admired. Barrett played a very patient innings and was at the wickets fully an hour before scoring. He was loudly cheered at the end of the day's play.
