THE WEST TAIERI AND MAUNGA. TUA PLOUGHING MATCH.
The above match was held on the llth inst., on a field kindly granted for the purpose by Mr R. M'Diarmid, of Kirkland farm, Maungatua. Owing to the very unsatisfactory state of the weather the number of entries was not so large as usual, and what promised to be one of the best matches held by the committee for some years, was only attended by 14 ploughs— seven double-furrows and seven swing ploughs. The work done was, on the whole, very good, but more especially the Champion lot ; the judges giving it as their opinion that they had seldom, if ever, seen a better ploughed lot In the Erovince. There were some very good teams of orses on the field, most notable being the two and three-horse teams of Mr Jas. Gow ; and the threehorse teams of Mr E. Muir and Messrs J. and A. Bobertßon, The judges of ploughing and horses were Messrs Jas. Allison (Milton), W. Hewltson (Lovell's Flat), and Thos. Pugh (Strath-Taierl), and their decisions gave more than usual satisfaction. The thanks of the committee are due ta Mr and Mrs M'Diarmid for the liberal manner in which they aopplled the temporal wants of judges, ploughmen, and committee.
