Mr Skkne reports under date July B.— The drought has broken up ah last, and the plough* are busy. During the week the demand was large for ploughmen, dairy people, and odd country hands. Rabbiters are now tapering oft a bit, but bunny is not done for yet. Station couples, shepherds, &c, will soon be moving again. Town is vpry quiet. There is plenty of work to do, but too many to do it. Wages : Couples, £65 to £75 ; shepherds, £55 to £60 ; ploughmen, £I— 2nd class, 15s and 17s 6d ; milkers, 10s, 12s, and 15s ; cooks, 20s and 255 ; station carpenters, 25s and 30s ; blacksmiths, 25s and 30s ; gardeners, 20b and 255 ; grooms, 15s and 90s, &c.
