NOTES a White's p-evious move transforms the game into the Vienna Opening; tho more favourable defence hare being 3...P to Q 4. 6 The best move here appears to be 8...P tks P. c Black is at this early stage already in difficulties, which the text move still increases. Better would have been 9...8 to X 3. d It would have been equally bad to leave White's centre iiitaot, and the knight in such a commanding position. c He probably did not expeot that White would retake with the pawn. There was nothing better now than 12...Kt to R4; 13 Pto QKt4, Xt tks B; 14 P tks B. Xt to B 4; and this also is not an enviable position. f Now he should have castled. The capture of the pawn is bad, and White's advance of 15 P to Q 6 quite transparent. g Now White is a pawn ahead with a superior position, and the remainder is of no interest, White's advantage being so striking. hlt is dear that if 46...Q to B sq; 47 Btoß 8 eh follows.
