GREEN ISLAND BOWLING AND LAWN TENNIS CLUB.

The annual meeting of the above club was held on the Ist July. Mr G. B. Smith (president) was in the chair, and about 20 members were present. The Secbetaht (Mr Stott) read the report and balance sheet, wherein reference was made to the present position of the club and its future prospects. The majority of members agreed that the club was in a healthy state, and with a green whioh promises to be in excellent condition for the coming season anticipate bbing able to give a good account of themselves. The balance showed a slight deficit, but members ara hopoful that the increase in metni ership will place the club in a fairly good position. The prize- winners for the past season were : — President's (first prize), G. B. Smith; second prize, Mr Wra. Gatfield. Doubles: Vicepresident's prize, Messrs G. B. Smith and M'Cabe.

The subscription for ensuing term was fixed at £1 Is. It was anuounced that the following gentlemen had kindly offered to give prizes for competition :— Messrs G. B. Smith, Samson, Gatfield, A. Leo Smith, and Richardson. The following were elected office-bearers for the ensuing sea&ou : — President, Mr G. B. Smith (re-elected)'; vice-presidents, Messrs Win. Gatfield, C. Samson (re-elected) ; delegates to the association, Messrs G. B. Smith and Miller ; managing committee— Messrs Harraway, J. H. Smellie, Fastier, Leary, and D'Oyley ; selection committee— Messrs Millsr, Fastier, and Gatfield ', hony tieasurer, Mr J. Miller; hon. secretary, Mr Walter Stott; auditor, Mr Faslier.

An autor and an officer of the Guards indulged in a back race, whioh termiuated in both rolling iv the mud. Mf3 Langtry is said to have competed in a hurdle race with a fashionable youth. After the race the party returned to the theatre, where Mrs Langtry distributed prizes, consisting ?of handkerchiefs, flowers, slippers, aud stockings. Xhe proceedings termiuated. at & a.m.
