Cameron (Mataura), 13 auckera at 7b 6d to 78. Wool.— By cable from London during the week we learn that the decline in values experienced at the opening of the current Berieß continues as the sales progreae. Up to 29bh June 55,200 bales had been sold. In the local market the uaual odd lots have been cleared at auction, and private sales are reported of about 150 balea, chiefly slipe, the output of a local fellmongery, at satisfactory prices SheepskiHß.— At Tuesday's auctions largecatalognes were presented to a moderate attendance of buyers. Competition lacked spirit ; unfavourable advices regarding the English wool market and the prevailing wet weather being accountable for the depressed tone of the sales. Almost all qualities suffered a considerable decline in values, the only lots whioh evoked anything like eager competition being matmakers' lots and any specially good lines of butchers' croßsbreds ; but even for those descriptions prices must be quoted, nay tid lower. Following is the range:— Butchers' skins: Crossbred, beat up to 5s 2d ; ordinary, 3s 10s to 4b 8d ; merino, 28 3d to 3s 3d ; lambs, 2s9d to3s6d. Dry skim: Crossbred, beat up to 3b 9ii to 5s ; ordinary, 2s to 3s 4d ; merino, 2s to 3s 3d ; pelts, 7d to lOd ; lambi, 2s 3d to 3b sd. Hides are in steady demand, but at no improvement on lateVates for the usual trade supplies. Any specialty heayy and good hides would probably bring slightly advanced prices, but such are very scarce. Quotations are:— Good weights, clean, and in good condition, 3d per lb ; other qualities lower in proportion ; green ok hides, up to 18b ; and cow hides, to 12s. Rabbitskinß.— Local buyers still operate freely, and all skins coming forward command prices that must be considered satisfactory. Catalogue* submitted to auction meet with animated competition at following values:- Late skins, to 1* 4d perlb; autumns, to Is ; summers, 8d ; suckers, 2d. Tallow.— The week has brought no change in the position of the local market. Any lota offered are rendily taken up at fully late figures, which may be given as :— Prime mutton shipping lines, 18s to 19s 6dpero«rt. ; ordinary lots of prime, 17s 6d ; medium, 16s ; inferior, 13a fcr> 14s. Fat -beat, 10a 6d to 13a 6d. Grain.— Wheat: It' is gratifying to note at last a slight improvement in the Bnglith market for New Zealand wheat, late cables bringing ndvice of a rise of 6d per quarter. Should this improvement be maintained values in the local market must harden in sympathy, but so far there is 'no change to record. Medium and inferior parcels are still without attention, and prime-milling sorts find buyers at up to 3s 4d to 3s sd, but only velvet and Tuscan of really firstclass quality bring these prices. Red wheats are worth 3s to 3s 2d for prime. Oats are rather easier, but quotations remain unaltered -say, Is 4d for prime milling and Is 2d to Is 3d for feed ; inferior, Is io 1b Id (all eacka extra, quotations ex store). Barley: No demand. Chaff.— At auction this week chaff sold at 35s to £2 ss, according to quality. A steady supply comes forward, and it would seem that no better prices can be looked for at present. For any large parcels £2 2s Gd may be considered outside value. Potatoes.— The trade are well supplied; quotations, £3 to £3 5b for prime.
