(Pee Press Association.) London, July 1. The weather having cleared up at lunch time, the players were enabled to make a start in the match Australians v. Derbyshire. The former scored 108. Murdoch played a steady facings for 29, Trott made 15, Gregory (not out) 22, and Trumble 22. Blackham is taking a rest on this occasion. The weather Still remained somewhat showery, and the wicket was very soft. Spofforth took three wickets for 34. The 'county team have lost one wicket for 16 runs. The following will represent the Lyric Club against the Australians at Stoke : — C. J. Thornton, Lord Hawke, W. E. Roller, W. W. Reid, Stoddart, M'Gregor, O'Brien, I Lohmann, Briggs, Peel, and Maurice Read. Spoffiorth plays for the Gentlemen of England in their match against the Players. UNIVERSITY MATCH. The inter-University match was commenced to-day. The wet weather had spoilt the wicket, and the scoring was poor. Oxford were all disposed of for the small score of 42, and Cambridge lost three wickets for 40. The Emperor of Japan has conferred on the Duke of Connaught the order of the Grand Star of the Chrysanthemum, and on the Duchess the Grand Star of the Crown.
