Mataura.— On Friday night, the 18th ult., the Mataura. Draughts and Chess Ol,ub' held their first meeting for the Reason. About a dozen members attended. Mr F. MaoKay (president) occupied the chair. The minutes of last annual meeting and the balance sheet tor the year were read and adopted. There is 5s 6d to credit. The election of officers for the year resulted as follows : —President, Mr Park; vice-president, Mr A. Balneaves; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. S. Shanks, jun. The general report showed 2cß g unes to have been piayed> 100 games won, 51 draws, and 127 losb; one match won, one drawn, and one lost. The subscription was fixed at 2s per quarter. After the business had been disposed oft, a few friendly games were played > Photographic Dratights Board. — Mesßri J. Downie and Sons, South Shields, have broughbouta novelty both as a carte and a draughts board, viz , a bonrd, cabinet size, upon the black squares of which are pictured 32 members of the South Shields Draughts Club. Champion Smith occupies one of the single corners (say 29), and his friend Richmond is on square 28. Judging from the faces we know, the likenesses are first rate, and the novel card will , no doubt, be greatly appreciated. Such like cartes, if got up on a larger scale, would make an excellent adornment to the rooms of draughts clubs, and we should like to see the plan come iito general use— West Lothian Oourier.

Mr J. P. Bell has resigned his position as president of the Dunedin Chess and Draughts Club, as he is unable to attend the club meetings as oft«n as he would like.
