INTERCOLONIAL. (Per Press Association.) Melbourne, April 9.
It is feared that as the damp, cold weather sets in the Russian influenza will become a very serious menace to public health. The epidemic is spreading rapidly, and there is no sign of it abating. Sydney, April 9. Yesterday a boat capsized on Lake Macquarie, and before succour could arrive three of the occupants, named Thompson, Spencer, and Daly, were drowned. It has leaked out that something approaching a mutiny occurred on board H.M.S. Egeria, the survey ship of the Pacific station, during her voyage from this port to Auckland. The Egeria, which is at present at Auokland, has been ordered back to Sydney, where the ringleaders in the affair will be tried by court-martial. Bestrictions respecting arrivals from Man* ritius have been removed.
One hundred and sixty-two persons are entirely homeless at Walgetta. The women and children have been removed from Bourke. The flood waters are expected to submerge the town at the end of the week. At Texas 11 fatalities have been reported.
