It would be of advantage to the association to have a geatleman with his experience and ability at the. head of affairs. — Mr Carlton was elected unanimously. Mr Cablton, in thanking them for the honour conferred upon him, pointed out the usefulness of the association's rule of appointing vice-president as president elect, as it made the office a rolling one,*and no one could occupy the position of president two years in succession. He might say he had been connected with the association since Ita start, three years ago, and had not misled a meeting. The association was progressing as favourably aS could be expected, 20 clubs, numbering 1500 members, having joined, and there was, be was glad to tay, a right loyal feeling existing among them. The association bad a capital start, as they had a credit balance. He enumerated the number of valuable prizes to be competed for at the exhibition tournament, in which upwards of 300 bowlers were expected to take part. Ifc had been the custom hitherto to Import the association medals, but personally he was not in favour of doing so as we had the necessary material and skilled labour here, and if the association could encourage local industries they should do so. Me advised the various clubs to adopt
colours, of which the secretary would Iceep a re* gister. The income of the association ■ waa raised from subscription from the clubs, and was only just sufficient to pay working expenses. They could not afford to give a prize, but he trusted that sufficient help would be given in tho way of donations to make the forthcoming tournament a success. For his part he would subscribe £10 103 to purchase any trophy the association agreed to. He concluded by again thanking them for the honour they had conferred upon. him.
MrJ.W. Mitchkij-, of Invercargill, nominated Mr W. Dawson as vice-president, saying he was a zealous bowler and most liberal. Mr Dawson, who was unanimously elected. In returning thanks concluded by promising, on behalf of Messrs Speight and Co., a trophy of the value of £15 15s.
