BROAD BAY.

September 10. — Mr Mobs, of the s.s. Edina, has recently erected a new jetty at Dunoon, the site being much more convenient Chan Eoss' Point. With his new steamer rapidly approaching completion, Mr Moss evidently expects, as his enterprise certainly deserves, a boom in the ferry traffic." There are certainly signs of a good crop of visitors during the coming summer. Messrs D. and J, Bacon are making considerable improvements in draining and tree planting on their property here. Thb Bibd Pest.— The small bird nuisance is infinitely worse with us than the rabbits. The way the birds went for the late autumn fruit was something appalling. Hard, unripe apples and pears that offered no attractions to the other enemy— small boys— seemed to be just to their taste, and mch mild remonstrances as " scares " or " guys " only seemed to excite their curiosity and inquiaitiveness. In the absence of any systematic poisoning, the road board might do well to offer & premium for eggs. Season. — Notwithstanding the exceptionally fine win' er, the spring is late. Early plum trees, now In full bloom, have often been a fortnight or three weeks earlier ; but the lateness gives the better prospect for fruit. Early potatoes and peas could scarcely have been better suited by the weather, consequently they are looking well.

School. — Yesterday our school underwent the annual examination at the hands of Mr Inspector Taylor, and, as usual, went through remarkably well, and that too without any special grinding and cramming.
