THE HON. T. FERGUS.
(From Oob Special Correspondent.) Wellington, August 15. It is understood that the Hon. Mr Fergus will resign his portfolio at the end of the session, in consequence of private business requiring all his attention. Most people will be sorry to hear of the determination coTie to by the Minister of Justice* and even political opponents will regret that for the present, at any rate, Mr Fergus intends retiring altogether from political lifeyand, in the event of a dissolution, will not contest any seat at the nest diction lfc is said that the Durerhr. number to whom the portfolio has been effere-i at tho end of the session is Mr Downie Stewart. August 19. I am informed that Mr Fergus has qow made satisfactory arrangements for the management oT his business* and that' he will not resign as previously state 1 !. The steamer Richmond brought, to Auckland half a million oranges from the islands, also a large quantity of bananas.
