COLLISION OFF DUNGENESS.
<fr TWENTY-FOUE LIVES LOST. London, February 4. The steamer Nereid collided with the barque Killochan, from Lyttelton, off Dungeness. Both vessels sank. Of the 24 persons who lost their lives, 17 belonged to the Killochan. The Killochan sank within four minutes of the collision. The survivors were rescued by the tug. Those who were save* from thd Killochan are: — Davey, Smith (mates), M'lver, E. Newen, Purvis, Anderson, Caddy, and Brown (seamen). Chuistchubch, February 5. The Killooban's cargo was insured here as follows : —New Zealand and Union, £3000 each ; Commercial Union, £2000; Canton and Union of Canton, Nafcion&l, Australian General, China Traders, London and Provincial, £1000 each; and Victoria, £525 ;-total, £14,525. The Killochan was a vessel of 1233 tons burthen, and commanded by Captain Manson. She sailed from Lyttelton on October 20, under charter to the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, for Falmoufch, for orders, with a cargo of 15,626 sacks of grain. Auckland, February 5. When the Killochan, sunk off the English coast, left Auckland she' took away as an apprentice a lad named Harold Bell, whose parents reside in Ponsonby.
