GRAIN AND WOOL REPORT.
Messrs Samuel Orb and Co., Stafford street, report for the week ending November 28 as. follows: — Wheat.—The tone of tho market during tho past week has been just about the same as the previous one ; there being no alterations in the prices here of anything worthy of special note. We learn, however, of a large parcel having changed hands up North at a price which has not been equalled In the colony for many years. Several small chanced hands at auction these past few days, but the quality not being by any means prime, full rates were consequently not obtained. Of prime quality there is but little about, and for a parcel we have no doubt that 4s 7d to 4s 8d might possibly be obtained. Latest Home advices say that there is a strong probability that there will be sufficient wheat in the world to meet all requirements ; but reserves are comparatively small. Any great scarcity seems, therefore, to be un'ikely, but in the face of the late rise in values seems likely to be sustained. We quote prime Tuscan, 4s 7d to 4s 9d ; velvet and red sttaw, 4ssdto 4s 6d ; medium, 4b 2d to 4s 4d; inferior and fowls' feed, 2s 9d to 4s. Q a t B ._These have again made a very big jump, and what 10 days ago was only worth 3s is now worth 43 2d, but we regret to Bay that but few of tho farmers reap the beuellt of the late substantial advance which has taken place. While taking credit to ourtelves that we predicted for weeks that an advance would take place, we never for a moment thought it would assume the magnitude It has. There have been a few bags only sola at 4s Ijd to 4s 3d, and it cannot really be taken that these figures could be got for a large parcel ; but what may, be got during the coming week we are not prepared to say. The Australian markets maintain tbeir position well, but are not jet in touch with the prices ruling here. If, however, the drought continues, a few days only will be required to bring this about. We quote prime milling up to 4s ljd j ordinary, 3« lOd to 4s ; discoloured and scraggy long, 3s 6d to 3s Bd% Barley.— There are not many parcels offering, but what few there a.re meet, in uniaon with other grain, with more demand than has bean forwedks past; and quote prime malting up to 4s 6d ; ordinary, 4s to 4s 3d; milling, 3s 9d; feed, 3s. Chaff .—During the week the arrivals have been of very small magnitude, while the enquiries have been most numerous, and today oaten sheaf, if well cut, is worth £5 5s to £5 10s (sacks extra). Potatoes.— We had several consignments during the week, in all' 20 tons, and which we sold at from £7 to £9 10s for old, while for uew ones we got more. fiyegrass.— During the week we sold about 1700 bushels at from 2s to 3s, according to quality. Wool.—The recent wet weather we have had for some time has materially retarded Bhearing from being pushed on with the vigour which owners would like to do at this season of the year, and we fear, If it does not soon take up.'our.sales will have to be held much later than was at first anticipated on this account, as the arrivals of the new clip axe of but small compass. It may be fortunate for the sales to be late, as the newß of the market at Home Is mare encouraging, while the American clip la said bo be far short of what they have had in former years, all of which may help to stimulate purchasers at our sales. As we nave pointed out in previous issueß we purpose " Belliiig all our wool by auction, and can assure those who favour us with their clips that they shall receive the most careful attention at our hands. The charge hitherto made to the purchaser will be done away with, and minor charges to the grower materially reduced, while we will supply woolpacks to those who favour us with their wool at 2a 4d each.
