The duty for the week amounted to £7467 9s lid, and the beer duty to £219 18s 7d. The rise in produce has caused a heavy advance in millers' Hues. Oatmeal has risen £5 per ton during the week, and on Saturday £18 and £20 per ton were asked, while for flour Saturday's quotations are £12 15a. to £13 5s per ton. Negotiations are pending for the disposal of this season's make of cheese from the Aparima Dairy Factory. An offer of 5d per Ib at the Bluff has been made, but the terms are not quite so favourable as the directors would like, and they bave not yet come to any decision on the matter. — Western Star.
Th(shalf-yearly report of the directors of the Bank of Australasia, with the statement of accounts for the half-year, as presented at the general meeting held at London on October 3, shows that the net profit of the half-year was £96,251, of which £96,000 has been devoted to the payment of a dividend at the rate of 12 per cent, per annum, and a sum of £l.°/,052 is carried forward. Mr R. B. Maiitiw reports having on the 22nd submitted for sale by nuetiou, under instructions from (Messrs John Reldand Son.ngentsfor) Herr A. Wii3t, his villa residence at Orakanul Bay. The property was v>assed in, the offers not coming up to vendor s limit. The auctioneer is prepared to treat privately for it. . The Perpetual Trustees report having sold at auction on Saturday Bectlon 19, Hawthorudale, with the cottftgo thereon, for £135. James Samson and Co. report tho sale of part section 20, block XI, Dunedin, together with building thereon; also freehold properties at Green Island and Moagiel, sold privately. Messrs Arthur M' Donald and Co. are in receipt of the following cable from their London agents dated 23rd inst. s~ "At the rabbitskin sale 3 to-day best descriptions advanced 2d per lb, and out of season kind Bhowod an improvement of ljd per lb compared with last auctions," The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received the following telegram from their London office, dated 23td inst. :— " Tallow : Good mutton tallow is worth 34s 3d, and good beef 32s9dpercwt.-Rabbitskinß: There is a good consumptive deraaud . Best descriptions have advanced 2*d per lb, and medium l§d per lb, since last report. —Frozen meat ; The market is easier." Timaru, November 28.-On Saturday 100 acres of good land about four miles from Timaru was aold by order of the Supreme Court by auction and realised £16 per acre. A level quarter-acre in the town fetched £.150. Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. have received the following cablegram from their London house (Messrs Sanderson, Murray, and Co.) dated the 26th inst.: -"Medium to good rabbitakina, prices have advanced 15 to 20 per cent. ; out of season skins, 6to 10 per cent." . A shipping firm in Christchurch have received advioes from their London agents that caution them against transactions In cocksfoot this season, the London, market being positively glutted with that article. It is, however, stated that ft good market for this commodity will be found in Rio, the Argentine, and other parts of South America.— Lyttelton Tho'New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received the following telegram from their London office, dated 27th Inst. :— " Wheat t The wheat market is easier. Auckland, November 28.-By the Tarawera last night the New Zealand Dairy Association sent 35001b butter to Sydney, where good prices now rule. Ihe drought has created ft large demand fov New Zealand produce in Sydney, f«id fop several weeks past a large quantity of chaff, oats, and other profliipe has been shipped from Auckland for that port. The Tarawera took away 1050 saclw and 1400 bags flour, 482 sacks maisse, 300 sacks of bran, 400 sacks of [ pollard, and a considerable quantity of meats, cheese, 1 and eggs.
