SUNSET.

'Tis even, and the setting sun Bathes all the world in amber light ; Hi 3 dai|y work is nobly done, And now, the gathering clouds of night, No longer sombre, dark, or drear, With many a heavenly colour bright , Inscribe my soul wit_h wondrous fear As I stand gazing at the sight. Forth from their nests and loathsome deus Fly the winged vermin of the night ; The air with horrid shrieks they rend As they fly reeling from the light, Like to the denizens of hell — Dwellers in chaos and in fire, Who still in utter darkness dwell, And own foul Satau for their sire. But, see ! the pageant's past and gone, The clouds resume their usual shade ; As darkness sets the world upon, Lo 1 all those glorious colours fade. Akaziel. Ida Valley, July 17.
