GRAIN AND SEED REPORT.
Messrs Samuel Orr and Co., Stafford street, report for the weekending August 22 .as follows .— Wheat.— Since reporting last week the market has subsided to a certain extent, millers being now pretty well filled up, so that it is somewhat difficult to obtain la&t week's quotations, except for really tip-top camples. Second class, of which there is still a large quantity in store, is difficult to place, but there is a very good demand for fowls' feed. We quote prime milling up to 3s 4d; medium, 2s 9d to 3s ; fowl feed, 2s to 2s 6d.
Oats.— The market shows no improvement on that of last week, being still in a rather languid 6tate. The intercolonial markets have not^improved in sympathy with the recent advance in values here, which fact, together with the great difliculty experienced in procuring sufficient space, prevents shippers operating to any great extent. The local demand is weak, millers declining to buy to any great extent. We quote prime milling, Is lid to Is llsd (extra prime samples might command 2s) ; short bright feed, Is lud to Is lid ; medium, Is 8d to Is 9d. Barley.— There 16 comparatively little doing, most maltsters being filled up pretty well, and any business done is ouly for tip-tup quality. We quote prime [malting, 4s to 4s 3d ; milling, 3s 3d ; feed, 2s to2B 6d.
Chaff.— The arrivals during the week have been limited, while the demand is good, so that fin,t-class oaten sheef, if well cut and screened, commandsuD to £3 ; ordinary, £2 10s to £2 15s. Potatoes. - In consequence of the large quantities coming forward the market has receded, and prices may now be quoted at : For prime Northern, £3 6* to £3 12s 6d ; Southern, £2 15s to £3. Seeds.— Bye Grass: Orders are now coming to hand moi c freely, and some good sized parcels are changing hands, but most of it is Povercy Bay, which still maintains premier position. Cocksfoot: A very fair demand exists, too, for this seed, and as the season advances prices may show an improvement. We quote prices from 3d to 4kl, but all according to quality. Clover Seeds.— There has been a very brisk demand and inquiry during the past few days, and as the Trevelyan, from Glasgow, which has a large quantity aboard, is not turning up, purchases have had to be made by those who have them aboard of her. We look for better prices being got ere a month. Our seeds are all tested in earth, so we can vouch for their germinating powers. Samples on application.
