tfuiY 2. -the annual ball ofthSTCeled Caledtfriian Sodiety was held on Friday last iti Dunnßtt's Hall; and proved a great success in every s.ense' of thfi wd.d. 'lhe presi-lent (Mr A. Hoss) briefly ad iressed thpso present before tho op'ertlrig of tho ball, and complimented them on the' silcc s* of tliegrtthariri^. He mentioned that they were hendure'd in having among them the champion piper df New 2tealdnd (Mr James M'Donald), and Mr M'ltorie, the eharripion dancer of Australia, who had recently cdnie over from Adelaide to reside amongst them. The grand march wai tHen gone through, 'and dancing was cdnimenced and kept up with great Spirit till 5 oc'ock neXb mcrnitisc. There were, as usual at sdeh a gathering, a number of rßel^ arid country dances included in the programme, and in additfetn Mr M'Rorie danced a number of High'and dances and a hornpipe, all of which greatly delighted the onlookers. The music was supplied by Messrs Huff (violin). Rundle (piccolo), and W. Dunnett (piano), while' Messrs M'Donald, Cameron, Duncan, and Jenkins' gave a number of selections on the pipes. Mr M'Pherson acted aa master of ceremonies to the satisfaction of all concerned. Several of the gentlemen appeared In Highland costume, and a number of the ladies wore very tasteful dresses. The committee of management deserve every credit for the manner in which the arrangements were carried out. At the close of the d mco a hearty vote of thinks was passed to the society, and Mr Faton (tho hon. secretary), in returning thanks on b)hilf of the society, expressed a hope that all present would be there again next year and have an equally enjoyable meeting. The company then sang " Auld Lang Syne," and the ball cami to an end.
