BRANDING MEAT.
A silly agitation has been got up in a few districts among farmers io favour of the branding of all imported meat. The suggestion is quite impracticable, and cannot come to anything. Besides, it is contrary to all precedent in this Freetrade country. Margarine is a base imitation of butter, and deserves exceptional treatment ; but to compel" every retail dealer to describe as foreign every foreign article that he sells would be absurd and intolerably vexatious.
