THE LATE MB J. C. MORTON.
The death of Mr J. C. Morton, editor ©f the Agricultural Gazette from its commencement, 44 years ago, makes a great gap in the ranks of agricultural journalists. Mr Morton was a man of great energy and ability, and his geniality made him a great favourite, so that his death has caused widespread sorrow. He wished to die " in harness," and his wish was gratified, for he discharged his dual functions of editor and inspector under the Land Commissioners on the very day of bis death, which is said to have been caused by paralysis of the heart. One of the most kindly and pleasant of men, Mr Morton had many friends and no enemies. He was very tolerant in his attitude towards those who differed from him, and though occasionally severe in his criticism, was very rarely, if ever, | at all bitter. He was buried in the ground of \ the parish church at Harrow -on -the- Hill on Wednesday, in the presence of many of the best known men in the agricultural world who live, in or near London. He has been a well-known man so long that many people are surprised to learn that he was only 67 when he died.
