CYCLING.
DUNEDIN CYCLING CLUB. A special general meeting of the club was called for Monday last to consider the race meeting balance sheet. The attendance of members was small, but the balance sheet and other papers were laid on the table by Mr Burn, the acting secretary, and showed that the meeting had not resulted in a loss. The balance sheet is to be printed and circulated among the members. Owing to business changes, the club has lost the services of its captain (Mr S. Kerr) and secretary (Mr J. Howlison), but as the season is practically over, the vacancies will not be filled up till the annual meeting in July. The club are now using a room kindly placed at their disposal by Mr William Melville in the Octagon, and the meeting was held there. It was decided to take advantage of Mr Melville's offer and use the room two nights in each week— Tuesday and Saturday. On Saturday a good number of cyclists looked in at the room for a chat and smoke, and some of the number arranged a run to Lawrence on the Queen's Birthday. The certain starters are Messrs Crow, Stone, Hurton, Bastings — all good road men— and probably others will join. The party is to leave town^ on Wednesday evening about 6 o'clock and ride on to Lawrence, if the weather is good, the same night. The return journey will be made the following afternoon and evening. With fine weather the trip will be very enjoyable, as the roads are reported to be in good order. On fine Saturdays through the winter those cyclists who intend to ride are requested to look in at the club room at 2 p.m. and meet other men of likti nclinations. Excepting during very bad weather, the roads in our district are generally better in winter than summer, and the keeu bracing air gives a gist to the exercise unknown to the butterfly who retires to his fireside with a pipe when the cold weather conies. There are always some cyclists who do not
care for football or other winter sports, and if they will only try the roads in winter they will find the game well worth the candle.
