THE LONDON WOOL SALES.

London, April 5.

The wool sales opened to-day. Nine thousand five hundred bales are catalogued, one-third being from New South Wales and one-third from New Zealand. There was a large attendance of buyers, and the bidding was keen. The prices realised are fully equal to the closing rates of the February sales. The number of bales available, including those reserved, is 340,000.

At the wool sales to-day the demand was good. Merinos and crossbreds realised prices equal to closing rates of the February sales. Scoured inferior a fraction cheaper.

April 6.

At the wool sales 32,000 bales have been catalogued, of which 15,000 were withdrawn. The bidding , was spirited and good sales were effected, but there was no quotable change in prices as compared with closing rates in February. Good sound merinos are unchanged, medium and inferior a halfpenny lower. Good greasy sorts are very firm, medium and inferior unchanged. Fine crossbreds firm, but the lower qualities are from par to halfpenny lower than in February.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following telegram from their London office, dated sth inst. : — " The sales opened this day at the level of last sales, except for faulty scoured and coarse crossbred, for which the market is easier. ; Attendance of both home and foreign buyers is good, and competition is fairly active. The sales comprise about 358,000 bales ; 54,000 bales having' been sent to the manufacturing districts direct."

Messrs Dalgety and Co. have received the following telegram from their head office, dated London, April 5:— "Wool sales opened; large number of buyers ; competition animated ; moderate selection of wool. Sydney wools show a rise of £d to fd per lb compared with closing rates of last series." Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. have received the following cablegram from their London house (Messrs, Sanderson, Murray, and Co.), dated the sth inst.: — " Sales opened with fair attendance of buyers, and moderate selection of wools.. Market' shows no material change. For faulty scoured, market weak." The British and New Zealand Mortgage and AgenGy Company have received the following cablegram from Messrs Helmuth Schwartze and Co., dated London, sth inst. :—" The sales > opened with fair, attendance of both home and

foreign bnyers; competition fairly animated prices unchanged.' Total .colonial- wool avail' able (including old stocks), 340,000 bales." Messrs Arthur M'Donald and Co. are in receipt of the following information, dated London, sth inst. :— " Sales opened to-day before a large attendance of buyers; last. sale's closing rates are firmly maintained." Messrs Dalgety and Co. have received the following cablegram from their head office, dated London, 7th inst. :— "No change in prices for the bulk of wools, but inferior and faulty scoured merinos show a decline of £d per lb." The British and New Zealand Mortgage and Agency Company have received the following cablegram from Messrs Helmuth Schwartze and Co., dated London, April 7:— "There is an increase in the animation. Opening rates are .fully maintained.
