OWAKE.
February 23.— Harvesting has commenced in thß district. The crops do not appear as heavy as last year's. The straw is for the most part shorter. We have had a few good days, and hope that the farmers will be able to harvest their crops safely. Of course a great deal depends on the weather. Soirees.— On the 23rd and 24th of February soirees in connection with the Presbyterian copgregation were held at Purekireki and Ahuriri respectively. Ou both occasions the Lower Owake choir was present, under the conductorship of Me Robert Clappertoo. Appropriate
addresses were delivered at Purekireki by the Rev. Messrs Finlayson, Spence, and Currie, and at Ahuriri by the Rev. Messrs Dalrymple, Currie, and Spence. The Rev. Mr M'Laren, the pastor, gave a short but encouraging account of the congregation's progress. The eatables provided by the ladies were of excellent quality, and all the arrangements were successfully carried out. The singing of the choir was highly appreciated— in fact, everything passed off without a hitch. The usual votes of thanks were carried at the close of the meetings, which were both largely attended.
