GLENORCHY.
FivBRUARY 27.— The fine weather appears to be tempting tourists to come out of their shells and visit the Head of the Lake. Amongst those of last week we had a visit from the Venerable Archdeacon Beaumont, of Lawrence. Whilst here Mr Beaumont conducted Divine service one evening, when about 30 persons availed themselves of the privilege. When speaking next morning nbout meeting so many people up hero, he inquired for the school, and was surprised to find that we had none. He was informed of the fact that the Southland Board of Education had been written to before their last meeting, but so far no steps seem to have been taken by the board. It is to be hoped something will be dove, and that soon, or some families will leave the district to take their children where there is a school.
Mining.— Buckleburn is looking up again. Several tfrom the Kinloch side are over here trying their luck, but as yet not much gold has been turned out. Perseverance works mighty changes, however. The Skippers Phoenix reefers who have taken the Invincible on tribute have got the battery in working order, and it is to be hoped that they will soon begin to realise. More power to them ! The Scheehte Company are sending away this week about five tons of stone.
