WAIKAKA.
November 21.— The weather during the past three days of the week was warm, but during the latter part it was cold. On Friday afternoon a number of showers of sleet and hail fell. The crops, in conse1 quene.eof the cold, are miking but slow progress, but, rhey have n healthy appearance. Most of the farmers have the turnip* land nearly ploughed. The best time ior sowing turnip seed br adenst here on well-prepared s >il is during the first two weeks of next mouth, but it is not too late up to Christmas. One farmer sowed last season ab the beginning of this \enr and h.i'l a go >1 crop. First turrow turnips, on the other hand, slum d be sown during this mouth or not at all, and -wedih should be sown also Ibis month. The quantity ol seel sown broadcast by some lii-ie ia about Boz. iiud the varieties preterred (ire the purple top yellow and the cree-i top yellow in the order n.tiu-d. m' Swedes, the purple i/>p also is, I believe, the best. County Election.— The election decided on Wednesday last was a great triumph ior the ionner member, Mr Thomas MacCr bbon, lie having polled mere votes than his three opjouuiits altogether. Mr Mac Gibbon has represented this riding (or the past 10 vrars. and the Inte election shows thnt he still enjoys the confidence of the ratepayers, for any of his opponent 1 ) would have made a capable, councillor. In connection uith this I may say that Government h;ive siutlmrisod the county council to spend £1000 on the main road in the Waikaka Valley. The settlers were losing hope of ever getting this money, which was voted about two sessions ago. And but for Mr Q. 1\ liichardson being a member of the Government, ifc is probable they would not have g °TKOUT.-Riding lately to Gore along the Waikaka stream, I noticed that trout were much more numerous between that place and the railway bridge than on the north side. There appeared to be a goodly number in the stream.— (Arrived too late for iist issue.)
