NOVEMBER 29,— At present the weather could not be more unseasonable, and changes are constantly brewing. On Monday morning the blue mountains were topped with snow, and a very cold .vind has been blowing almost incessantly. Consequently the crops are not doing so w ell as they should, and a spell of fine weather is required to further growth. Caledonian.— A meeting; of the Caledonian Society ■was held on Friday evening last, when there was a fair attendance of members. The officers were elected for the ensuing year, and resulted in the re-election of last year's office-bearers - viz , Messrs D M'Kellar, president ; W. Simmonds and J . Mair, vice-presidents; and W. Quin, secretary and treasurer. The date of the sports was fixed for January 2, and the programme was revised. A Blight reduction has been made in some of the items. The I'apanui aud Kelso sports will again clash this " Cricket.— Our team of cricketers are pretty well kept goiDg, and a match Married v. Single was
played on Saturday last. The benedicts gave the "boys" a great beating, making 159 runs to the good. A few of the old members showed that they have not yet forgetten their cricket, and Messrs Darling, Gossago, and Menzies each made a splendid display of bitting. The bowling on the Single side was rather weak, and consequently favoured their opponents, for whom Dr de Lautour and T. J Miles bowled well. With the exception of a slight misunderstanding between one of the acting umpires and the captain of the Married team, the game throughout was a very pleasant one. The local eleven play the return match with Clinton on Saturday, December 3. SnuAßiNG.— Shearing has now become pretty general, although delayed by the late bad weather. Several large sheds are in rull swing whipping off the wool, and a spell of fine weather would be very acceptable to those thus engaged.
