Cricket in Southland.
(Peom Our Own Coreespondent.)
Inveecaegill, October 22. Cricketers here have good cause to grumble at the weather they are experiencing, as up to date there has not been one fine Saturday. Today it was blowing half a gale, and in town locomotion was extremely difficult. The I.F.C. played a scratch match— last year's members of the old Britannia Club against members of the I.F.C. Scores: Britannia, 30 ; I.F.C, 31. Lillicrap (13) and T. Kingsland (11) were tha ouly double figures. Burns with the ball performed the hat trick. The Star journeyed to Waikiwi where they played and defeated the Makarewa Club by an innings and 33 runs. Scores: Makarewa, 36 and 19 ; Star, 88. For the losers, Waldron and Pay 10 each ; and for the winners, Cuff (30), Schmoll (16), and Cunningham (12), were the principal scorers. Waldron, Pay, and Gorton, for the Makarewa ; J. Kingsland and M'Donald, for the Star, did the execution with the ball.
