MISCELLANEOUS.

A sitting of the Warden's Court was held before Mr Warden Carew at the Land Board room yesterday, when the adjourned application of William Barrell, who asked that the Government should resume possession of section 21, block XVIII, Shotover district, for mining purposes, was considered. Mr J. Mouafc appeared for the applicant, and Mr Hodgbins for Mr Harrison, owner of the section in question. After discussion it; was agreed to further adjourn consideration of the matter to the 6th of January, so as to allow Barrell to bottom the shaft he is now working in, when he will be able to give evidence as to the value of the land for mining purposes. The Auckland Chamber of Commerce passed the following resolution at its last meeting : — " That the Auckland members be requested to use their influence with the Government to guarantee a sum of £1000 to be paid to any individual who shall construct reduction works for extracting gold and silver from ores." The Western Star states that Messrs Logan and Spence, representatives of Logan's Patent Gold Saving Company, of Ballarat, after inspecting the claims at Round Hill, decided to erect machinery to work the sludge claimthere. The Bank of New Zealand at Hokitika shipped three boxes of gold, weighing 3000oz, valued at £12,000. At a public meeting at Hokitika it was unanimously resolved to urge the Government immediately to proclaim the Arahura and Teremakau rivers watercourses for the deposit of tailings. The speakers all condemned the alternative course of resuming the land. There is much complaint at the apathy of tho authorities, as, owing to the rivers not being proclaimed, fin injunction may be obtained any day and hundreds of miners thrown out of employment. The Thames gold returns fnr the month were 32000z. The Coromandel returns only amounted to ITDou.
