FOOTBALL IN INVEBCARGILL.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Invercargill, August 20. • .The match played here to-day between the Pirates and the Hokonui Rangers resulted in an easy win for the former by 14 points to nil. In the first spell the only score was a goal kicked from the field by Harvey, but, in the second the Pirates, through the agency of Galbraith (2), Borne,' E. Hawke, and Tapper (1 each), scored tries, Galbraith converting three into goals. The forwards of the winners were much too strong for the Rangers, and Tapper's play at half-buck was also of great use to his side. Gallaher and Harvey made some good runs, and Hawke some very bad passing. In the losing team, Murphy (2) Rogers, Cross, Marris and Donaldson were most conspicuous.
Our " Reps." all speak in giowing terms of the treatment they received while in Dunedin, and they are already discussing the prospects of success in our next encounter. A draw with Nelson was never dreamt of, and even allowing for sea sickness, &c, I am afraid it augurs badly for the O.R.F.U. in their other firtures.
