FOOTBALL.
' , The annual football match between Christ's College, Canterbury, and the Otago High School will be played on the Carisbrook ground on Saturday next. Both teams have been in hard | training for some time, and are equally confident of success, so that an . interesting game may therefore be expected. This is the fifth occasion 1 on which representative teams from the rival schools , have met on the football field. The first two matches were won by the Northerners, the next two by their opponents. Special interest therefore attaches to the impending struggle. The game will commence at 3 p.m. The stand haß been reserved for the use of ladies. The college team wore to arrive on Thursday evening. i A Nelson telegram states that the Nelson Rugby Union Committee met on Tuesday, when the statements published in an Auckland paper relative to the Otago-Nelson match were considered. It was resolved—" (1) That this committee desires to record its disapproval of the conduct of one of the Otago team supplying ' statements to a reporter that are a slander on Nelson footballers and utterly at variance with the facts. (2) That the excuse that the ground was too ' hard and dry for scoring was rather a lame one. (3) That the committee feel confident that the remarks of the person interviewed are not endorsed by the team as a whole. (4) That the secretary bo instructed to arrange a return match with the Otago team on their return from the North, and, offer them the net proceeds of the gate." ''• A graceful compliment, and one which, must be greatly appreciated, has been paid to the Invercargili Football Clvb 1 . A number of the ladies resident, in Invercargill have presented the club with a handsome and artistically worked banner, one side being black with a raised blue monogram, and the .other blue with a raised black monogram.. Thus the colours of the club (blue and black) have been tastefully and cleverly blended, and the banner is at once a credit to the donors and a great honour to the recipients. ■
