GRAIN REPORT,

Messrs Samuel Orb and Co., Stafford .street, j report for the week ending June 29 as fol- { lows •— ;

Wheat.— The market continues In much, about the lame position as lately reported, as the 'stocks' held locally are but light. Millers show no inplination' to rush in 'and purchase speeulatively", but -simply for; requirements ; consequently the market 1b steady ! and 'at late quotations— viz. : for prime milling red straw, Tuscan or velvet, '4s to 4s Id; medium to good, 3s 9d to 3s lid; inferior and fowls' feed, 3s' 4d to 3s Bd, and very scarce.Oats.— DuriDg the -week a bit of speculative demand set in for both North and Melbourne, but at the last moment discouraging reports came from the latter and upset the market, a little. This has been caused through the large shipments from the South, as mentioned by us last week, and we fear it may take a little time for the intercolonial markets to recover. Arrivals are but small for the week, We quote prime heavy.bright feed and milling Is 9d, at which we sold J.B. (.Waitahuna), and C. Q. (Tapanui), ordinary milling and bright feed sorts, la 8d to Is B§d; medium, Is 7£d to Is 8d; Inferior or discoloured, Is 5d to Is 7d. Barley. — Still a few lots offering, but maltsters nearly all filled up. Feed and milling sorts are in demand at good rates. Prime malting is worth up to 4s Id, sacks extra ; ordinary, 3s 8d to 3s lid ; milliHg, 3s 8d ; feed, 2s lOd to 3s Id. sraaa Seed. — During the .week there has been a little, inquiry for grass seed, but no business of any consequence has resulted. Cocksfoot, on the other hand, is rapidly advancing, and a fair amount of business transacted. '

Potatoes.— We regret to say that no improvement has taken place in the demand for these, which is so badly wanted, as large stocks are held in stores here as well as in the country. Prices as before, viz., 30s to 355.

Chaff. — A better demand exists now than for some time past past, and likely to continue. Oaten sheaf, if well cut, screened, and sound, commanding as much as £2 15s ; ordinary, £2 to £2 10s.
