PORTO BELLO.

JuifE 27.— The ordinary monthly meeting of the' Portobello Road Board was held on the 25th.' Present: Messrs J. Macandrew (chairman), &. G. Russell, G. Anderson, W. Dickson, J, Cross, E. Raynbird, and J. Q-. Lewis. A letter was read, from the contractor stating that he could not commence to carry out his contract on the Seach road, NorthEast Harbour, for some, weeks. The- contractor attended' in person, and after 'some discussion, in which it was stated that it would not do to cart the metal along the road, as it would destroy the road already metalled, it was' decided to let't'he tender drop, the contractor saying he could hot carry Out the work at the figure he had offered to bring the metal by lighter. A letter was read < from the Colonial Secretary in. answer to the board's request to legalise the ■ election of the , members recently elected to the effect that as no action has been taken to upset the election the members were duly elected. A dispute between the inspector and contractor in regard to the measurement of metal at Waverley was brought before the board, and it was decided that some of the members should report on the matter aud that the contractor be paid for so much at present 'on account. Mr Richmond wrote in reference to the roads at Lamlash. It was decided that the inspector should visit the locality and report at next meeting. The bank overdraft was reported at £533, and as this is more than had been agreed upon, the bank authorities asked for information as to the revenue from rates, &c, for the year. It was decided to call for tenders for rotten rock for the Beach road at North-East Harbour. It waß resolved that a rate of |d in the pound be struck for the year. The question of Macfarlane's road was brought up, and it was decided to have it reported upon in time for next meeting. Accounts to the amount of £128 13s 9d were passed for payment.
