FOOTBALL.
We have had some stirring games since my last, and the public have rolled up in thousauds to witness them. On Saturday some 15,000 attended the M.C.C. ground to witness the Adelaide Club and Carlton trying conclusions. For the first half of the game the Adelaide men more than held their own; but during the second half the Dark Blues displayed their staying powers, and assisted by two wonderful kicks for goal by one of their number named Coupon (a Melbourne reject) they eventually won by six goals to three.
Tasmania and < Adelaide met on Monday on the same ground, before an audience of 5000. The game was level at half time — three goals each ; but after that the Tasmanians had their opponents entirely at their mercy, and added 11 more goals to their score, whilst the Adelaide tally remained unaltered.
In consequence of two letters coming to hand by the same mail, we were compelled to omit the following notes by "Olympus" last week : —
