PORTOB ELLO.
November 2.— The ordinary monthly meeting of the Portobello Road Board was held on the 30th alt , all the members but Mr Lewis being pregent, A letter dated September 6, and bearing the Wellington postmark of October 6, was read from the Government in re the new road district. An animated discussion ensued as to where the letter had been detained, and it was resolved that the secretary should write to Mr Larnach strongly objecting to the proposed alteration. — The question of further borrowing under the Government proposals was discussed, and it was ultimately decided that no action be taken at present in the matter. — Mr J. Christie wrote asking the board to do something to the road leading to his property. It was decided to leave the matter in the hauds ot the inspector. — The committee in re the roads to Lamlash bonded in their report ; and it was resolved that if a swing gate be not erected within one week from date the roads should be thrown open. — The collector reported having collected £85 15s lid for the month. — Accounts to the amount of £92 9s 7d were laid before the board ; and the meeting closed.
