(Reuter's Telegrams.) Melbourne, June 18.
Reports to hand from the Northern Territory prove that the best route to the Kimberlev goldfield is by way of Cambridge Gulf. Three hundred men, who are now at Port Derby, are unable 'to proceed to Kimberley owing to the want of water.

The Peninsular and Oriental Company's Shannon arrived on Saturday evening with the English mails dated London, May 14th.
Melbourne, June 22,
A virtual rupture has occurred between the associated banks in this city over a question of imprest on deposits. The Rotomahana sailed this afternoon for the Bluff.
The local manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Limited, reports on the Melbourne markets as follows : — Shipping wheat is very flat at 5s Id to 5s 3d ; malting barley is quiet at 3s 9d to 4s 3d ; New Zealand oats— feed sorts are very strong at 3s to 3s 4d, and prime milling description 3s 4d to 3s Gd. New Zealand oats under bond are quoted at 2s 5d to 2s 8d per bushel.
Sydney, June 18. New Zealand wheat remains at 4s 3d per bushel ; New Zealand oats are unchanged at 2s 6d ; maize, per 561b, is at 3s sd, a decline of Id. Sugar Company's No. 1 pieces is at £25 per ton. Pollard is 2d per bushel dearer, at Is 3d. Potatoes are at 85s, an advance of 20s upon last week's quotations. Heavy rains continue to be experienced in Sydney and country districts.
Sir John Robertson has resigned his seat in the Legislative "Assembly. It is understood he will retire into private life.

The tariff bills are being discussed. Public meetings were called by supporters of the measure, and also by those opposing it Resolutions have been passed for and against the G-overnment tariff proposals, at the respective meetings.
Sydney, June 21. The Mayor has given a banquet to celebrate the jabilee accession of her Majesty the Queen. The principal personages in the city and district were present.
Sydney, June 22.
A serious accident occurred on board H.M.S. Opal yesterday. While she was firing a royal salute in honour of the accession of the Queen, one of the guns burst, killing one seaman and seriously injuring another.
A tram accident occurred yesterday at the North Shore through two trams coming into collision. Five persons were injured.
Adelaide, June 19. Wheat is at 5s Id to 5s 2d, and is firm. Flour — town brands are at £11 to £11 15s, and country brands £10 5s to £11.
