WYNDHAM.

January 25. — The Mimib.au Stream has afforded the local knights of the rod some capital sport this season. From the .junction of the Mataura River up to Venlaw good fishing can be. had, and up to the present time several good baskets have been obtained — Messrs William M. Elliott and J. Rnnkiu being the inonfc successful. j Daiky Factory. — The' success of this undertaking i-s becoming more and more apparent, and there, is not a resident in this district, who could do otherwise than testify to the great amount of good already done by tho factory. At present 1500 gallons per day is the average, and this, I believe, is the output of 40 dairies. This vill show how alive the. farmers in this district have been to their own interests, and how anxious they are to send all the milk possible to the factory — recognising that so long as 4d per gallon is being paid they are reaping a rich harvest ; and I feel confident myself that at the priro just quoted it is equal to 2s Gd to Us per bushel for oats, all things considered. Out of the capital of 3000 shares at XI each, 2200 have been allotted, representing about 100 shareholders, all residents in tho district. 1 hear on undoubted authority that the Company have disposed of about 40 tons ah 5;/d to fid per lb, delivered on trucks at Wyudhani and free from commission. If these prices are maintained during the season the shareholders will get a handsome dividend, besides having a good credit to form the nucleus of a reserve fund.

Arnticur/niRAi, — Tin; oat crops, speaking generally, will be. much below the average, although in some instances splendid fields may be seen. These :tre, however, few and far between. The turnip crops are not looking well ; the long spell of dry weather has greatly retarded their growth.

I 0.0. F .: Alma Loix.f. — The half-yearly installation of office-hearers for the current term took place on Tue.dny week last. Bro. Heywood, D.D.G M. (Pioneer, Invercargill), performed the ceremony in an impressive manner, and conducted the following oflicurs to their respective chairs : — N.G , Bro. E. Forsyth ; V.G., Bro. J. M'Bride; secretary, Bro. R. Paul; treasurer, Bro. William Fraser ; conductor, Bro. R. Tytler Miller; warden, Bro. D. Oarmichael ;' R.S.S , Bro. H. It. E. Nutsford ; L.S.S., Bro. D. Nutsford: R S.N.G., Bro. T. Blackley; L.S.N.G., Bro. P. Gillon ; R.S.V.G., Bro. R. Crawford ; S.S.V.G , Bro. J. Bell ; 1.G., Bro. J. M'Naught ; O G., Bro. Thomas Dougerty. Bro. Heywood spoke in complimentary terms of the efficient manner in which the retiring officers performed their duties, and stated that to his knowledge there w:is not a lodge in Southland in which the initiations were more impressively gone through. He idso referred to the addition to the hall as being a he.alty sign, and whs pleased to hear through the secretary what a highly creditable financial position the Lodge was in.
